With an injury to Patrick Eaves the Carolina Hurricanes have recalled WMU hockey alum Pat Dwyer. This is Dwyer's second career call up to the NHL after being called up on November 2 of this year and playing 7 games as a fourth line winger and member of the second penalty kill unit.
Dwyer's defensive responsibility and penalty killing abilities make him an attractive call up for the Hurricanes because they know he won't make many mistakes as a fill-in. But if he wants to make a permanent stay in the NHL in the future he's going to have to learn how to contribute some goals and assists, even with the limited ice time that comes from being a fourth liner.
The CanesCountry blog has a nice look at tonight's game against the Florida Panthers.
