Former Western Michigan hockey players Lucas Drake and Steve Rymsha are having solid years in the IHL this season.
Drake, who has been with the Kalamazoo Wings for much of his professional career, has always been slightly below a point per game producer. That level of production includes two seasons with the Grand Rapids Bearcats in the NAHL, all 4 years as a depth/roll player for WMU, and the first 4 years of his professional career. Now he is slightly above a point per game producer with 13 points in 11 games including 7 goals. Drake has found a spot on the Wing's top line and is shooting better then he ever has before.
Rymsha, who spent time in Europe after a pair of successful ECHL seasons, is back in the United States this year to play in the IHL with the Flint Generals. He is at a point per game pace as well, actually slightly behind his typical pace in Europe, with 13 points in 13 games. While Rymsha has typically been a bit of a sniper, scoring as much as assisting, this season 11 of his 13 points are on assists and only 2 goals.
